Eye Airfield
Eye Wind Power Ltd are pleased to announce that the three wind turbine project at Eye Airfield has now been submitted for full planning approval. The project was submitted to Mid Suffolk District Council and has a planning reference number 0096/10. The target re-submission is August 2010.
We have included a downloadable copy of the Non Technical Summary at the foot of this page. This document is a brief outline of the project. Also there is an independent noise and health effect report carried out by leading experts from all over the world, all these documents are freely available to download.
This great project will provide a very useful income as detailed below to the town of Eye and surrounding villages. To help us with this exciting project and show your support we have included a couple of pre-written letters for you to download, print off, add your name and address, sign, then pop into an envelope and send to the planning officer at Mid Suffolk District Council in Neeham Market. If you can send in a letter we'd greatly appreciate your support.
In addition to the downloads below is a copy of the cost benefit analysis which shows how much greenhouse gasses are saved and other benefits are created, by the use of wind power as opposed to carbon based energy sources such as coal, gas and oil.
Benefits
The proposed three wind turbine development to the south of Eye Airfield, adjacent to the A140, with two turbines in the Parish of Yaxley and one in the Parish of Eye, this project has the potential to provide all the clean, green energy needs for 5,400 homes for the next 25 years.
Wind Power Renewables has committed to the establishment of a community fund proportional to the size of the project. Local people will guide the use of the fund and the company will support in administration and delivery. The fund will receive an annual top-up from the project of typically £1000 per installed Megawatt of capacity. For the Eye project this fund is expected to receive over £10,000 per annum, this will equate to well in excess of £250,000 over 25 years. A lasting legacy after the turbines have been removed.

On climate change; Vicky Pope, Head of Climate Change Advice at the Met Office said, "If emissions continue at the current rate the global average temperatures are likely to rise by 4 degrees Celsius by the end of this century or even substantially earlier. The science tells us that this will have severe and widespread impacts in all parts of the world, so we need to take action now to reduce emissions to avoid water and food shortages in the future."
"Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, RSPB and WWF, are calling on the UK Government to put in place funding and incentives to encourage investment in much more wind power." Quote from Friends of the Earth

The Eye Wind Power Ltd planning application was submitted to Mid Suffolk District Council in January 2010 and finally verified and officially accepted by them on 12th February, giving the project a target date for determination of the 4th June 2010. see link below to the planning page at MSDC. Latest is that we've had to withdraw due to National Grid finally deciding where their pipeline is and this confirmation meaqnt that we had to relocate our southern most turbine further to the north by a few meters. MSDC advised that as this has changed the RED LINE (boundary to the development0 then we have to resubmit. This we will undertake in the next few weeks. We are taking this opportunity to add in some more useful information to the Environmental Statement.

A public exhibition was held at Eye Town Hall at 19:00 on the 2nd December, we had a better than expected turnout despite the terrible weather! In general we found that most people we spoke to were in favour of the project and we take great encouragement from their comments.
